Therapy for Trauma and Childhood Trauma
Trauma is not only about what occurred. It is about the way those experiences left imprints; in your body, your relationships, your instincts, and your sense of self. You may have known for a long time that something has been holding you back, or you may be only beginning to understand how much your past has shaped your present.
Many of the women I work with did not always identify their experiences as trauma. What they knew was that they settled for less than they deserved in relationships, held themselves back in ways they could not fully explain, struggled to know or trust their own needs, or felt somehow responsible for meeting everyone else’s needs while their own went unmet. They may have had difficulty with self-trust, or felt that they simply did not have permission to heal.

You May Recognize Some of These Experiences
-
Settling for less than you deserve in relationships or in life
-
Difficulty knowing, trusting, or advocating for your own needs
-
People pleasing or over-giving, with little left for yourself
-
Feeling held back or as though you do not deserve more
-
A persistent sense of guilt, shame, or responsibility for other people’s feelings or experiences
-
Recurring patterns in relationships; settling for less than you need or leaving you feeling unsatisfied or unseen
-
Emotional intensity, numbness, feeling disconnected, or being easily triggered
-
A sense that your nervous system, instincts, or self-trust have been impacted by the trauma
How I Can Help
Trauma work is highly individualized. We find the approach that is right for you, moving at a pace that feels safe and manageable. This may include IFS-informed therapy to help you understand and work with the parts of yourself that have been shaped by trauma; and where appropriate, EMDR to process experiences that are held in the body and nervous system.
Having your pace truly respected throughout this process is itself part of the healing. For many people, it may be one of the first times their autonomy has been fully honored. I work with both recent and longstanding trauma, including experiences that occurred in childhood.
Healing from trauma is possible, whether it happened recently or long ago, once or many times over. You can feel better. You can experience real and lasting change. And you do not have to do it alone.
I frequently work with mothers, therapists, educators, healers, highly sensitive women and empaths, as well as people experiencing systemic oppression or marginalization.
